A few words about Nalagarh
At the foot of the Shiwalik hills in the Solan district is Nalagarh, the gateway to the mountain state of Himachal Pradesh. Once the seat of the Hindur Kingdom of the Chandela kings, Nalagarh is famous for its fort, now a heritage hotel. Founded by Raja Ajay Chand in 1100 A.D. the Chandela dynasty saw great patrons of art and architecture among their kings. Raja Ram Chander, another king of the same dynasty, built thr Ramgarh fort in the town of Ramshere. The last ruler of Nalagarh, Raja Surendra Singh was succeeded by his son Raja Vijayendra, who is at present the ceremonial head. Situated at an altitude of 1220 ft, Nalagarh is 300 km at the north of Delhi, 60 km from Chandigarh, 40 km from Kalka and 20 km from Rupar. With the view of the snow clad Shiwalik hills beyond the Sirsa river meandering by, and the majestic fort atop a hillock telling stories of a bygone era, Nalagarh is neat beauty and heritage-on the rocks.
