About Taragarh
Lying at the foot of the Dhauladhar range in the Himalyas, at an altitude of 1000m is the town of Taragarh in the Kangra district. The breath taking Dhauladhar on one side and the kangra valley fort on the other, Taragarh is a heady cocktail of nature and history. The town owes its name to Maharani Taradevi of Kashmir, who gave the Taragarh palace its name. This palace was made by the Nawab of Bhawalpur in 1931, which he then called Al Hilal, meaning, the crescent moon. On his settling down in Pakistan, the Maharani of Kashmir bought it and gave it its present name. The nearest airport from Taragarh is four and half hours drive away at Kullu. And the nearest railway station is at Pathankot, 115 km away. Taragarh is well connected to other places in the Himachal, by road. The fragrant tea plantations and the low lying hills and a view of the sumptuous Kangra valley makes this quiet, yet-to-be-popular town, a perfect holiday destination.
