(Heritage Hotel in Panaji Goa)

Hotels in Panaji Goa, Hotel of Panaji Goa, Panaji Goa Hotels Introduction

The Panjim Inn has been part of the Latin Quarter pantheon for many years and was amongst the first big houses of fontainhas. Built in the late 1800's by Francis Assis D'silveira, a landed gentleman and successful businessman it is owned by the same family over 5 generations. The gilded pelmets and wrought iron railings, which run across the 1st floor balconies and verandahs, sport the family insignia or brazao of Francis D'assis Silveira.

Diligent restorations preserve the external facade and retain the distinctiveness and intrinsic elegance of the building. While making alterations care has been exercised to conserve and strengthen the 90cm. thick mud, clay and lateritic stonewalls, which make for the basic structure. The massive burmah teak beams and rafters have been treated to protect them from termites and white ants

Hotel Specifications

Accommodation

There are 14 bedrooms with modern facilities including partial air-conditioning on the premises. Each is quite individual in character; four-poster beds, carved rosewood almirahs, period furniture, and paintings from an in house art gallery generate an air of romance for the present and nostalgia for the past.

Dining

The kitchen serves local and continental cuisine on a 1st floor verandah restaurant overlooking a street junction. Depending on workload, guests are welcome to try their hand in the kitchen or suggest changes to the menu. Sitting on turn of the century rosewood chairs and tables over a beer or a local feni or sipping a juice, one can observe the town's people go about their mundane chores. A little imagination - down memory lane to better times, to an old fashioned world of chivalry and noblesse oblige and you can envision youthful Romeos serenading comely damsels from below the balconies or perhaps almost hear the wistful lament of a portuguese fado emerge from the shadows of twilight.
