About the Hotel:
The Himalayan Hotel in Darjeeling has a unique charm and character. The Hotel was the home of David MacDonald who transformed it into a hotel after his retirement. After his death the hotel was maintained by his two elder daughters. The hotel is now run by David MacDonald's grandson. It is here that this British travel agent wrote his famous works "Land of the Lama" and "Twenty Years in Tibet". It has been home to Everest expeditions from the days of Mallory and Irving in the 1920's and home to other British officials later on. The grandson of David MacDonald has ensured that the hotel remains "a collector's piece of hotels". The Himalayan Hotel in Darjeeling now has two annexes in addition to its traditional grandeur.
